The Policaro Foundation’s inaugural track day puts guests in the passenger seat while raising $140,000

The Policaro Foundation - $140,000 Cheque for SickKids HospitalIt’s not every day you get to ride shotgun with a world-class race car driver in a built-for-track performance vehicle, but the inaugural Policaro Foundation Track Day held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in late May proved to be more than an everyday event. Not only did guests find themselves careening around corners in specially modified Policaro Motorsport race cars with professional drivers from the groups racing division behind the wheel, but they also raised $140,000 while they were at it.

The Policaro Foundation Track DayThe event brought automotive enthusiasts from around the GTA together for a day of performance racing and family fun in the name of charity. As a division of Policaro Group, the Policaro Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a brighter and healthier community, and their first initiative is a commitment to support the Policaro Fetal Cardiac Fellowship Program in partnership with SickKids Hospital. It’s safe to say that they’re off to a great start.

In addition to the hot laps in the normally single-seat Policaro Motorsport race cars that had been modified to accommodate a passenger beside the driver, participants could also choose from a fleet of other performance vehicles provided by the groups various dealerships for testing. For those with a little more track experience, open lapping on the venerable 3.9 kilometre track in their own whip was on the menu.

Off track, Policaro Group’s ambassador and TFC’s star Sebastian Giovinco was on hand to meet and greet fans, while a team from Nova Health Club led stretches for drivers coming off the track a little stiff from the inertia. Those too young to drive a performance vehicle –or any vehicle—experienced the next best thing in the GT3 Cup Car simulator.

The Policaro Foundation Track DayThe Policaro Harley Davidson team was also on site with their Jump Star setup that allows those with no motorcycle experience to feel the pure power of a Harley beneath their legs and shift through the gears while the rear wheel spins safely on a pair of rollers.

The Policaro Foundation Track DayIt was an amazing day for those in attendance, but more importantly, a profitable day for the Policaro Foundation, SickKids Hospitals and The Policaro Fetal Cardiac Fellowship. The proceeds generated will meet a critical need for the Labatt Family Heart Centre at SickKids by building capacity for Canada’s primary fetal cardiac diagnosis and treatment centre. Trainees who gain experience at SickKids through the fellowship will go on to work in paediatric heart centres worldwide, providing better care and disease management for children across the globe.
